The job of this week was with the primary groups and was one of the few times that the teacher requested me to plan an exam for the kids, specifically 5th grades. The exams needed to cover the structures of simple past, simple present, and simple future.
The rest of the time consisted of grading and observing the classes in the rest of the groups. I tried to make the exam as easy as possible for the students not to flunk it.
However, surprisingly for me and for the teacher, almost all the students actually flunked it.
It worried the teacher a lot since the exam was very easy to pass but few students managed to pass it. This situation was the most removable this week since it opened a space of reflection for the teacher. Perhaps, the methodology that is used by the teacher is not being useful and needs to be changed in order for them to understand the topics. After the exam, I helped the teacher with the development of the rest of the classes. The majority of the time in the basic grades there is nothing exceptional or important which made classes always monotonous.
As a reflection, I consider that is very difficult to improve the pedagogic practices when students do not want to learn and it is even more difficult to motivate them to learn. Since there are many students in a classroom, the management of the class could turn into something chaotic if teachers do not kno how to face those kind of situations.
